Digvijay stuns Parikshit

Digvijay Pratap Singh, Aditya Vashistha, Akanksha Bhan scored upset wins to enter the semifinals of the MSLTA-ITF junior tennis championship at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi.

Digvijay stunned fourth seed Parikshit Somani 6-4, 6-2 in the boys’ quarterfinals to set up a last-four clash against Aditya Vashistha. Vashishta ousted eighth seed N.B. Ravikumar 6-4, 6-4.

Gujarat’s Bhan staged the lone upset in the girls’ quarterfinals as she overpowered fourth-seeded Eunhye Lee of Korea 6-2, 6-3.

The results: Quarterfinals: Boys: 1-Siddhant Banthia bt Dhruv Sunish 6-4, 6-1; 3-Seita Watanabe (Jpn) bt 7-Alex Solanki 6-1, 6-2; Digvijay Pratap Singh bt 4-Parikshit Somani 6-4, 6-2; Aditya Vashistha bt 8-N.B. Ravikumar 6-4, 6-4.

Girls: 2-Mihika Yadav bt Maria Krupenina (Rus) 2-6, 6-4, 6-0; 1-Mahak Jain bt 5-Weronika Falkowaska (Pol) 6-2, 6-0; 8-Akanksha Bhan bt 4-Eunhye Lee (Kor) 6-2, 6-3; 3-Sohyun Park (Kor) bt Vaidehi Chaudhari 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.
