Sameer Verma enters quarterfinals

Sameer Verma overcame Shreyansh Jaiswal to advance to the men’s singles quarterfinals but the Indian mixed pair of Arun Vishnu and Aparna Balan lost at the $50,000 Vietnam Open Grand Prix badminton here on Thursday.

Verma upstaged Jaiswal 20-22, 26-24, 21-17 after battling it out for one hour and eight minutes.

Vishnu and Balan lost to the Indonesian duo of Alfian Eko Prasetya and Annisa Saufika 21-9, 22-20 in just half an hour.

The results:

Men: Singles: Pre-quarterfinals: Sameer Verma bt Shreyansh Jaiswal 20-22, 26-24, 21-17.

Doubles: Second round: Kaixiang Huang & Sijie Wang bt Akshay Dewalkar & Pranaav Jerry Chopra 21-12, 21-14.

Mixed doubles: Second round: Alfian Eko Prasetya & Annisa Saufika bt Arun Vishnu & Aparna Balan 21-9, 22-20.
