Wrestler Sakshi Malik, who broke India's medal drought at the Rio Games by winning a bronze on August 18, arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday.

After arriving at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Ms. Malik stopped at Mundka village in Delhi, before attending a ceremony in Bahadurgarh where Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar presented her a cheque of Rs. 2.5 crore.

Addressing a crowd, Ms. Malik thanked people for the support and vowed to work hard towards winning more medals.

The victory procession, with a truck blaring songs about Haryana ki beti Sakshi Malik (Haryana’s daughter, Sakshi Malik) made its way through villages, with Ms. Malik waving at the crowds.

The Chief Minister announced several measures to improve sports education in the State, including recruitment of 1,000 coaches.

He also announced that Ms. Malik would be the brand ambassador for the ‘Beti Padhao Beti Bachao’ campaign.
