Kushal Mendis stole the show on day two of the all-India Coromandel King Moin-ud-Dowla Gold Cup cricket tournament here on Thursday.

The aggressive right-hander waded into the Hyderabad President’s XI attack, taking Sri Lanka to a commanding 401 for eight in reply to the home team’s 290. Seventeen boundaries studded his 210-ball 156, as did a six. Supplementing his charge was Milinda Siriwardene’s 93. For the home side, Ahmed Quadri waged a lone battle, his gentle off-spin fetching him a bag of four for 62 and contained the damage by the visitors to some extent.

In another contest, M.S. Washington Sundar’s 131 gave MRF a 13-run lead against FCI. X. Thalaivan Sargunam chipped in with 69.

The scores: Hyderabad XI 465 for seven in 90 overs vs Air India 337 for nine in 89 overs (Hiten Dalal 74, Himanshu Asnora 82, Pratyush Singh 34, Rahul Yadav 40, John Abraham 37 batting, C.V. Milind three for 61, Vishal Sharma four for 72).

FCI 283 & 34 for four in eight overs vs MRF 296 in 71.2 overs (Thalaivan Sargunam 69, M.S. Washington Sundar 131, S. Aniruda 42, Prashanth Chowdhary four for 61, Pulkit four for 103).

Hyderabad President’s XI 290 in 81.1 overs vs Sri Lanka 401 for eight in 87 overs (Kushal Mendis 156, Sadeera 38, Milinda Siriwardene 93, Lahiru Milantha 57 batting, Ahmed Quadri four for 62).

India Cements 353 & one for no loss in one over vs ONGC 272 in 81.3 overs (Nitesh Rana 127, Gautam Gambhir 42, Malolan Rangarajan four for 55, L. Vignesh three for 52).
