Terror & transparency

October 06, 2015 01:23 am | Updated 01:23 am IST

With two back-to-back terror attacks in Gurdaspur and Udhampur and the Indian Mujahedeen gaining ground, intelligence agencies should be given more powers of intrusion into the lives of citizens, subject, of course, to reasonable restrictions (“Empower intelligence agencies”, Oct. 5). According to a Guardian /ICM poll, almost three quarters of Britain are happy to give up civil liberties to make them safer from terror attacks. One would readily endorse the writer’s insight that greater operational freedom for intelligence agencies is the price we have to pay for securing our lives.
