Voting procedures in India need a paradigm shift through electoral reforms, in synergy with the ‘Digital India’ campaign (“Scripting clean polls, via Aadhaar,” Oct.1). Almost 65 per cent of our population has been covered by Aadhaar and within another year, it is expected that every Indian will have an Aadhaar number. The linking of Aadhaar number to the electoral rolls will not only curb bogus voting but also widen the voter base by including the NRIs through e-voting. This revolutionary step, which will reduce the workload of the Election Commission, should be backed by the Supreme Court.

Aadhaar can be deployed for multiple applications — ranging from provision of subsidies to voting. It will not only remove bogus voters but will also be helpful in making the election process more effective. It can also enable e-voting and help those who migrate for education and employment exercise their franchise.
