The issue of CKD

January 09, 2017 11:50 pm | Updated 11:50 pm IST

Why Sri Lanka alone? Though the article, “Sri Lanka’s next big fight” (‘Weekend Being’ page, Jan.8) mentioned it in passing the fact is that chronic kidney disease is also a problem in the Uddanam area of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh.

The government seems to be lukewarm in its response so far. More dialysis units need to be established here. Detecting cases, and ensuring proper and free medication are needed at this juncture. The Andhra Pradesh government needs to send a team of doctors to Sri Lanka to observe the measures being taken there.
