Poor dalit girl students studying in Government Social Welfare Hostel for Girls in Kashmirgadda locality in Karimnagar are living in very unhygienic conditions without proper facilities, food and other amenities.

The students are put up in a hall with inadequate facilities with all debris. Besides, the mosquito menace is widely prevalent. The girl students do not get sufficient food and proper health care too. They are not even provided with safe drinking water.

If the adolescent girl suffers from any health problem, the hostel management provides treatment with a local RMP, instead of treating the girl with a qualified lady doctor. The girl students are forced to clean classrooms, kitchen and toilets by using acid.

The girl students also complain about non-distribution of cosmetic charges and sanitary napkins. They also complained about insecurity due to non-availability of generator during power cuts. They also alleged that the hostel warden uses filthy language and provides less quantity of food. The social welfare hostel for girls provides shelter to 45 girl students from Class V to X. These girls study in the adjoining Government High School in Sapthagiri Colony in the town.

On Monday, a girl student of the hostel complained of severe stomach-ache during the school hours. The school authorities called the hostel authorities to shift the girl to the hostel for rest, but in vain.

Later, the school PET and another teacher, along with two other girl students, dropped the ailing student in the hostel. Following the news, this correspondent visited the hostel on Tuesday and found unhygienic conditions. Garbage and litter was strewn all around.

When tasted, the drinking water found to be unsafe. Even as the hostel is provided with the RO plant, it is not being utilised and students are forced to drink the contaminated borewell water stored in a container.

Terming the allegations as false and baseless, hostel warden Bhudevi said that the students want to go to another hostel in the town and are making baseless allegations.

When asked about providing treatment to girls with an RMP, the warden remained silent. She also did not answer the queries on supply of protected drinking water and less quantity of food.
