TS govt failed to tackle drought situation: BJP

April 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - WARANGAL:

The State government failed miserably in tackling the drought situation in the State, particularly in Warangal district said BJP district president A Ashok Reddy.

The extreme weather conditions prevailed in the district in 51 mandals forcing many to migrate to far off places. There was no drinking water and even cattle faced hardship owing to shortage of fodder and drinking water.

However, the State government merely declared 11 mandals drought-hit and it failed to launch drought relief measures.

In the absence of farming operations owing to severe heat wave conditions, inadequate water and power supply, the people are forced to leave villages in search of livelihood. “If government launches drought relief works, people will survive,” the BJP leader opined.

Though the Central government was ready to sanction additional funds to tackle the drought, the State government was not coming forward to utilize the same. The State government should encourage the farmers to make use of the crop insurance scheme launched by the Central government. Referring to the Mission Kakatiya programme, the BJP leader accused the ruling party MLAs of cornering the tenders or threatening the contractors. There was large scale of misappropriation of public fund which should be probed thoroughly.

He also accused the ruling party of resorting to misuse of power for its plenary meeting in Khammam.
