TRS planning to shelve projects: Congress

September 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 28, 2016 02:40 pm IST - KARIMNAGAR:

The Congress legislator from Jagtial, T. Jeevan Reddy alleged that the TRS government was planning to shelve all the pending ongoing irrigation projects on the pretext of redesigning.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, he said that the State government would not complete the irrigation projects in the name of redesigning and later blame the Congress.

Finding fault with the TRS government for redesigning the ongoing irrigation projects, he asked why the TRS had not opposed the execution of irrigation projects or suggested modifications when in opposition.

Clarifying that the Congress government had proposed Pranahita-Chevella lift irrigation project to utilise about 160 tmcs of water, he said that they had proposed to construct a barrage at Tummidi-Hatti in Adilabad district with the submergence of only 1,800 acres of uncultivable land in Maharashtra State.

He said that the Congress government had held several meetings with the Maharashtra Chief Minister and engineers for securing necessary clearances.

Reminding that the TRS government had demanded that the Union government should declare the Pranahita-Chevella as national project, he said that the WAPCO consultancy services had designed the existing Pranahita-Chevella project and added that the TRS government had also entrusted the redesigning of the project to the same agency.

He said that the construction of Pranahita-Chevella at Tummidi-Hatti would ensure water through gravity to 74 km. If the project was redesigned and constructed at Medigadda, the water had to be lifted from zero point and the government should again secure all permissions for the project, he added.

He stated that the Congress government had completed the SRSP flood flow canal and 90 per cent works of Yellampalli project and earth dam for the Mid Manair Dam.

Former ZP chairman A. Laxman Kumar, former government whip Arepalli Mohan, Mahila Congress president Gugilla Jayashree, and others were also present.
