Scores of trade union activists owing allegiance to the AITUC laid a siege to the head office of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) in Kothagudem on Monday to press for their charter of demands including revival of dependent employment scheme and payment of enhanced wages prescribed by the high power committee to the contract workers.
The protest programme was organised under the aegis of the AITUC affiliated Singareni Collieries Workers Union (SCWU) marking the conclusion of the eight-day ‘poru yatra’ spearheaded by the AITUC in the entire coal belt region spread in four districts.
CPI senior leader and former Kothagudem MLA K Sambasiva Rao, the SCWU central committee president Y Gattaiah and general secretary Vasireddy Seetharamaiah and others participated.
Addressing the protest demonstration, the SCWU leaders alleged that the TGBKS has miserably failed to safeguard the interests of the workforce during its stint as the recognised trade union of the company in the past four years.
They demanded that the government should provide 25 per cent share in the profits of the company to the workers and housing facility to each worker.
They urged the coal workers to strive to ensure the victory of the AITUC in the recognised trade union elections to be held soon.
