The crisis around the rising demands for a separate High Court for Telangana and the withdrawal of the appointment in Telangana of about 120 judicial officers belonging to Andhra Pradesh, appeared to worsen with the suspension of nine more judicial officers on Tuesday. The names of those suspended were not immediately available.
On Monday, president of the Telangana Judges Association K. Ravinder Reddy, who is also the IV Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge at the Nampally Criminal Courts, and Varaprasad, general secretary and XIV Additional District Judge in the Ranga Reddy Courts, were suspended. Following this, most of the Judges decided to apply for mass casual leave on Tuesday.
Since 10 a.m., a meeting of the judges was going on at a hotel at Abids here, but till late afternoon no news was forthcoming about its outcome. A source said the judges were contemplating launching an indefinite hunger strike but there was no confirmation on this.
Meanwhile, a host of members of the Telangana Advocates Joint Action Committee, including its senior office bearers Gandra Mohan Rao, Rajender Reddy, Jitender Reddy, Sriranga Rao, S ahother Reddy and Janardhan Reddy, reached the national capital with an intent to exert more pressure.
They were to hold meetings with Union Law Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Meanwhile, Jaya Vindhyala, an advocate at the High Court here, who was arrested and brought to the Charminar police station, proclaimed that she would launch a fast unto death if the demands of the agitating advocates were not met with. The demands include the taking back of the 120 judicial officers belonging to Andhra Pradesh, the revocation of the suspension of the two judicial officers and a recall of the acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale.
