Congress party workers led by DCC president N Rajender Reddy staged a demonstration drawing the attention of the State government towards problems facing the farming community here on Monday.
Former MP S Rajaiah, former MLA K Sridhar, town Congress president T Vidyasagar, former ZP chairman S Samma Rao, senior leader Varada Rajeswar Rao and Namindla Srinivas and scores of others participated in the protest demonstration. They staged a rasta roko at Hanamkonda chowrastha and the vehicular traffic came to a standstill for a while. The police arrested the leaders and lodged them at Hanamkonda police station.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Rajender Reddy said the State government failed to address the problems facing the farmers. Scores of farmers died in distress due to crop failure and financial losses.
