Projects in Adilabad receive copious inflows

September 25, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 08:49 pm IST - ADILABAD:

Adilabad received an average rainfall of over 5 cm, mostly occurring in the small hours of Saturday, which brought hill streams into spate. The phenomenon resulted in projects receiving copious inflows and water being released downstream.

The downpour was heavy in the western parts of the district and in parts of the tribal belt. This did not dislocate normal life but seems to have damaged standing crops, especially cotton in Indervelli and Utnoor.

The major release of flood water came at Kadem dam where at one stage 7 gates were lifted to release 87,000 cusecs against an inflow of 74,000. These flood waters were released into the Godavari and eventually reached Yellampally project in Karimnagar district.

Water was also released from Gaddennavagu, Satnala and Mathadivagu projects owing to good rainfall in the catchment areas. While Nirmal mandal received 20 cm of rainfall in the night, Dilawarpur received 19 cm., while Kuntala, Bhainsa, Mudhole and Lohesra received over 10 cm.
