MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has said the party’s spectacular performance in Maharashtra was only a trailer and there was more to come in future.

“The growing popularity of Majlis had set in panic among the ‘secular parties’ in the country. Instead of doing an introspection for their downslide they were finding fault with the Majlis. The Majlis win in Maharashtra was giving sleepless nights to the Congress and other parties. “Maharashtra is only a trailer. There is more to come in future”, Mr. Owaisi said.

He was addressing a public meeting at Darsusalam grounds Monday night in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary. The Hyderabad MP hit back at the AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, for throwing choicest epithets at him and his younger sibling, Akbaruddin Owaisi, during the party’s recent minority convention. “Is Majlis responsible for your continued defeat in Madhya Pradesh”, Mr. Asaduddin asked Mr. Singh. He told the Congress leader to find out why his party had suffered defeat in Telangana in spite of creating the new State. Mr. Asaduddin took strong exception to the Majlis being termed a communal party and asked Mr. Singh whether he had not worked for the Hindu Mahasabha in his younger days and whether his late father didn’t represent Hindu Mahasabha in Assembly. The Majlis would fight for the Muslims of Seemanchal belt of Bihar and also wherever injustice was meted out to the community.

He targeted the BJP for suddenly thinking of observing Raja Mahender Pratap birth celebrations in the Aligarh Muslim University campus. Instead the birthday of the Nizam should be celebrated since he had donated Rs. 1 lakh to AMU. The Nizam had also made generous donation of Rs. 5 lakh to the Banaras Hindu University.
