A beautifully carved massive rock structure will be installed at the Hanamkonda main thoroughfare, commemorating the Telangana State formation and the martyrs who gave their lives for Telangana cause.

District Collector G Kishan and M Panduranga Rao who are overseeing the project, have said a 32-feet exquisitely carved granite stone christened as “Amaraveerula Keerthi Stupham” would be unveiled on the intervening night of June 1 and 2 opposite the Collector’s Bunglow here.

The memorial is being made by renowned sculptor Shiva Kumar of Tamil Nadu who is overseeing the restoration of ancient Thousand Pillar temple here. Under his supervision, about 40 sculptors are now working on this Telangana martyrs memorial for the past many days here, he said.

The non-governmental organization Orugallu Seva Samithi floated by the district Collector G Kishan and government employees contributed their salaries to fund the project.

According to the Collector, there would be festivities on June 1 midnight where a colourful caravan would be taken out from Ambedkar statue to NIT involving artisans and artistes showcasing the culture and traditions of Telangana region. “It will be on a big scale. The jubilation and festivities manifest the spirit of people and their aspiration for Telangana liberation,” he explained.

On Wednesday, Mr. Kishan accompanied by TNGO leader Paritala Subba Rao and others visited the spot to inspect the ongoing works. He later visited Arts College auditorium grounds where the pylon was being made.

Speaking to The Hindu , Prof Panduranga Rao said this would be the biggest memorial coming up in the Telangana State. “It would be a rich tribute to those who died for cause. It will remain forever and no doubt it will attract tourists too,” he pointed out.
