‘Entry into U.S. determined by CBP officer’

May 31, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:16 am IST

My B1/B2 visa is valid until 2024. I had visited the U.S. before to see my children living there. What is the minimum time gap required between two visits to the U.S.?

If you have a valid multiple entry B1/B2 visa (denoted with the letter ‘M’ under entries on the visa), it can be used more than once from the date it is issued until the date it expires to travel to the U.S. port-of-entry. However, the visa expiration date does not reflect how long you are authorised to stay within the United States. Entry and the length of authorised stay within the United States are determined by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer at the port-of-entry each time you travel. If you are a frequent traveller to the United States, you should be able to explain the purpose of each visit to the CBP officer. If you plan to reside in the United States, you should consult our website for instructions on applying for an immigrant visa.

I attended H1B visa interview in March 2016. The interviewing officer informed that my visa is approved. But I was given 221G seeking medical reports. I have undergone medical tests and submitted my passport in April 2016. When can I get my passport?

Unfortunately, we cannot give a specific timeframe during which administrative processing will be completed. We recognise that the delays caused by the process can be frustrating, but we assure you that we process each case as quickly as possible. Should you have specific questions about your case, you should write to HYDCEA@state.gov.

I have not heard from the consulate regarding the status of my application for almost a month now. How can I track the status of my visa application?
