Congress leaders observe fast against redesigning

July 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:58 am IST - KHAMMAM:

Congress cadre led by party deputy leader in the Telangana Legislative Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy observed a day-long fast here on Wednesday in protest against the redesigning and renaming of Indirasagar and Rajivsagar lift irrigation projects in the district.

Speaking at the dharna chowk after the daylong fast, Mr Sudhakar Reddy charged the TRS government with illogically taking a decision to redesign and rename the two projects initiated during the previous Congress government, based on narrow political considerations.

Instead of completing the two projects as per their original design with less expenditure, the TRS regime chose to spend a whopping Rs 8000 crore by rechristening the two projects as Sitarama project, he alleged, deploring that the move would prove a financial drain on the State ex-chequer.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and other senior leaders visited the hunger fast camp in the evening.
