Bathukamma festivities to promote tourism

Focus will either be on Bommalamma hillocks or Nagunuru temples

The district administration is planning to celebrate the Bathukamma festival on a grand-scale, from village level to the district headquarters from October 12 to 21.

Reviewing the arrangements for the festival in Karimnagar on Wednesday, Collector Neetu Prasad said that they had decided to promote tourism as part of the celebrations by selecting either Bommalamma hillocks or Nagunuru temples. She said that they would be conducting Bathukamma songs competitions, food festival, seminar on Bathukamma, traditional dress competitions, rangoli, painting and other events during the festivities.

She instructed the municipal authorities to beautify the town with electrification and installation of Bathukamma logos. She said that the students of SRR Degree College would be presenting the traditional Perini dance performance on October 15 at the Tower circle. She asked the the authorities to take measures for the conduct of cultural programmes daily at the Circus grounds.

She also appointed DRDA Project Director Arunasri as the nodal officer for the Bathukamma festival. Additional Joint Collector Nagendra and DRO Veerabrahmaiah would act as coordinators. The Collector informed the authorities to constitute a committee with women employees. She also instructed the authorities to depute more than 100 artists and womenfolk to participate in Bathukamma closing ceremony in Hyderabad on October 21.

Joint Collector Pausumi Basu and others were also present.
