Advocates JAC leaders taken into custody

July 31, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - SANGAREDDY:

The Medak district police arrested members of the Advocates Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Saturday, who were on their way to Mallannasagar villages. They were later shifted to Mulugu police station.

Soon after the arrest, the advocates staged a ‘rasta roko’ on the main road of Rajiv Rahadari.

A vehicle passing from Karimangar to Hyderabad rammed the agitating advocates, resulting in injury to Prasad, a senior advocate of High Court.

“Police manhandled us. While one batch was shifted to Mulugu police station, another batch was shifted to another location which we do not know. The vehicle that hit Prasad belongs to Karimnagar MLC V. Bhanuprakash. The driver did not stop the vehicle even after the incident,” said Mr. Prabhakar Reddy, one of the JAC members.

Meanwhile, the residents of Vemulaghat expressed their displeasure over heavy police presence in the village. This is one of the two villages which has been openly opposing the construction of reservoir. The other village being, Singaram. “If at all the government is interested in constructing the reservoir, why don’t they come and hold discussions with us in our village instead of getting villagers shifted to other places like Gajwel, Siddipet or Hyderabad. Let them come to the village and hold grama sabha and hear the voice of entire village, instead of only a few,” said a resident of the village. Meanwhile, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao is likely to Erravalli, one of the submerging villages, on Monday. According to sources, he indicated this to villagers who met him in Hyderabad on Friday.

Meanwhile, Congress leaders C. Damodar Rajanarashima and V. Sunitha Lakhma Reddy, who were accorded permission by the High Court to visit Mallannasagar villages, are planning their visit on Monday.
