Action sought against toddy mafia

September 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - ADILABAD:

The Telangana Goud Jana Hakkula Porata Samiti on Tuesday demanded stringent action against toddy mafia and sanction of toddy tapping licences to toddy tappers. The Samiti also demanded stopping of all false propaganda against toddy terming it as a killer drink and holding tappers responsible for the deaths.

About 50 activists of the Samiti took out a rally in town and staged a dharna in front of the district Collectorate.

They later marched to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Prohibition and Excise and submitted a memorandum of demands.

Samiti general secretary Konda Bala Goud accused the State government of protecting the toddy mafia which is primarily responsible for manufacture and sale of spurious toddy.

The press note handed over by the agitating toddy-tappers even contained the names of political leaders from the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and others who were accused of being part of the mafia in Mahabubnagar and Nizamabad.
