Teething problems persist

Siddipet lacks proper infrastructure, but the administration is striving to reach out to people despite this.

Even after trifurcation of Medak district, several teething problems persist in all the three districts owing to lack of manpower and infrastructure. Only Sangareddy district is an exception as it had an established infrastructure even before the split.

If Sangareddy, the erstwhile district headquarters town of Medak district, lost its charm with fewer people arriving here to get their grievances redressed, it also faces a piquant situation of lack of sufficient staff at the grassroot level.

On the other hand, trifurcation came as a boon for people residing in the new districts of Siddipet and Medak.

While the new districts were inaugurated with much fanfare, infrastructure is a casualty. “The infrastructure is being put in place slowly with temporary Collectorate already being functional. But day-to-day operations are affected in the absence of district-level officers due to staff crunch . For instance, there is no district public relations officer or divisional public relations officer in this district being represented by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

Residents of the erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts, whose villages were merged with the Siddipet district, are yet to get the feel of the new district. “The administration is yet to get some control over the areas that were merged from Warangal and Karimnagar districts. Collector or Joint Collector is closely monitoring the developments in these areas,” the official said. However, the process is made relatively easy in Siddipet as Mr. Harish Rao had worked towards establishing the district well in advance.

The creation of Medak district began from the scratch with the government identifying a closed engineering college to house function as the Collectorate. Many officials posted to Medak were reluctant to join duty and also went on leave for some time. There appears to be some disgruntlement among the officials, who claim that the best officers were posted to Siddipet district followed by Sangareddy and the remaining were sent to Medak against their wish.

However, the forming new districts has made it easy for the officials to visit every nook and corner to monitor development work.
