Pandemonium at Zilla Parishad meeting

February 07, 2017 08:33 pm | Updated 08:33 pm IST - SANGAREDDY:

The Zilla Parishad meeting held here on Tuesday witnessed pandemonium, with the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Congress throwing allegations at each other. Lok Sabha MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy got the situation under control restoring normalcy, while ZP chairperson B. Rajamani Murali Yadav was a mere spectator.

It all started when Congress ZPTC member P. Sanjeeva Reddy of Narayankhed raised the issue of supply of Godavari water to the area and whether the promise would be fulfilled. When the concerned officer was replying, TRS MLA M. Bhoopal Reddy said the Congress was creating hurdles in getting irrigation projects cleared — Mr. Prabhakar Reddy too joined in the chorus.

Government order

Replying to the allegation, Congress leaders said that they were demanding the right compensation for farmers and the court found fault with government order 123, upon which the State government was directed not to purchase land.

When Toguta ZPTC member Roopa tried to raise the issue of Mallannasagar, the Lok Sabha MP pacified her, stating that it could be discussed later. Finally, Mr. Prabhakar Reddy had to pacify members of both the parties and bring the situation under control.

Members of both the ruling party and the Opposition were critical of how the officials of the Pollution Control Board (PCB) were functioning, alleging that they were making money from the industries in the name of elected representatives. “We know what you are doing with the industries and how are you compromising with them,” Mr. Prabahkar Reddy said.

Patancheru MLA G. Mahipal Reddy sought to know who was responsible for the death of more than 5 lakh fish at Isnapur tank due to pollution. Other members asked when the meeting with industry representatives would be held as the promise was made almost three months ago in the presence of Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao.
