NIZAMABAD: There are at least half-a-dozen persons from the ruling party who are vying for the sought after post of chairperson Nizamabad Market Committee that has been reserved for BC-Mahila.

The Nizamabad Marketyard is the second biggest one in the State with ₹15 crore annual income. It is the number one regular market in the country as trading of grains continues throughout the year. Further, it is an online market before becoming the e-NAM.

Political leaders are trying their level best lobbying with their own sources in the party. The leaders have proposed the name of their wives as it is reserved for women.

Names of Chinta Priyanka, wife of TRS student wing leader Chintha Mahesh; Kulachari Divya wife of Dinesh, former ZPTC member from Dichpally and aide of MLA Bajireddy Goverdhan; corporator Sudam Lakshmi, who unsuccessfully contested for the Mayoral post; and Shakkarikonda Lakshmi wife of Krishna, Dichpally mandal TRS leader, prominently figure in the list.

MP’s support

However, the post will go to the candidate supported by Member of Parliament K. Kavitha. According to reliable sources in the party, she is in favour of the candidature of a person belonging to Padmashali community as Munnurukapus already have cornered most of the political positions.

If the MP does decide to support Padmashalis then chances of Priyanka and Shakkarikonda Lakshmi are greater than Divya and Sudam Lakshmi who belong to Munnurukapu community. MLC R. Bhupathi Reddy is supporting Priyanka while TRS district president Eega Ganga Reddy is proposing Shakkarikonda Lakshmi. Mr. Bajireddy is moving the candidature of Divya. Nizamabad MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta remains neutral and is not taking sides.

The marketyard committee comprising chairman, vice-chairman and 18 directors has not been constituted after former chairman and Congress leader K. Nagesh Reddy stepped down in May 2014.

It is learnt that the file relating to the committee is almost ready. The contestants are waiting for the declaration with bated breath.
