The State-wide foot march christened “Mahajana padayatra” being spearheaded by CPI(M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram and others in pursuit of social justice and all-round development of Telangana touched the 3,000-km milestone at Thallada on the 112th day of the marathon late on Sunday evening.
A pylon was inaugurated by party central committee member V Srinivasa Rao in the heart of Thallada marking the milestone crossed by CPI (M) leaders en-route their 4,000-km State-wide walkathon.
Mr Veerabhadram and other leaders were accorded a rousing welcome by people from different walks of life, mostly comprising youth, on their arrival at the mandal headquarters town.
Addressing a well-attended roadside meeting at the Ambedkar statue on Sunday night, Mr Srinivasa Rao said the mahajana padayatra achieved a landmark by reaching the 3,000-km mark with overwhelming support from people.
Mr Veerabhadram had so far written dozens of letters to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao based on thousands of petitions received by him during the padayatra, he said, adding that the government had remained in “slumber.”
The CPI(M) would relentlessly pursue the mass movements till the TRS government redressed the grievances of people and fulfilled all its pre-poll promises made to unemployed youth, farmers, and underprivileged sections in Telangana, he said.
He said the BJP-led Central government had failed to deliver its promise on setting up AIMS and railway wagon factory among other institutions in Telangana.
