Wordy duel between students leads to tension in Ariyalur

July 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - ARIYALUR:

Tension prevailed at Sendurai in Ariyalur district after some platform shops were damaged following a quarrel between school students belonging to Vanniyar and Dalit communities earlier in the day. The wordy duel reportedly broke out among students of class XI of the Government Boys Higher Secondary School at Sendurai. However, teachers intervened and pacified the students.

The exact reason for the quarrel had to be ascertained, police said. After school hours, students of a group conveyed the information to the villagers on returning home.

Following this, a group of people from Vanniyar community of Unjini assembled at Sendurai and damaged some platform shops.

However, police intervened quickly to prevent a clash between the two groups.

A strong posse of police has been deployed at Sendurai to avert any untoward incident.
