VCK member dies in road accident

A Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) functionary died and eight others were injured after the mini van they were travelling in overturned on the Tiruchi – Chennai national highway at Siruvachur on Tuesday.

A group of VCK members from Chennai were proceeding to Madurai to attend a public conclave organised by the People’s Welfare Alliance in that city when the accident occurred.

Police said the right side tyre of the vehicle suddenly burst and the vehicle lost control and overturned.

One of the party functionaries A. Backiaraj (35) of Chennai died on the spot while the remaining occupants were treated as outpatients at Perambalur Government Hospital.
