Vaiko invokes methane issue, urges voters to reject Karunanidhi

May 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - TIRUVARUR:

MDMK leader on Saturday accused DMK president and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi of betraying the delta district farmers and facilitating the coal-bed methane gas extraction project.

“Spurn him in the Assembly elections in Tiruvarur when he comes claiming that he is a son of the soil,” Mr. Vaiko said.

The MDMK leader alleged that Mr. Karunanidhi had queered the pitch in the Cauvery issue and did not handle the Mullaperiyar issue deftly, as a result of which the livelihood of people in 15 districts of the State was affected.

“If Mr. Karunanidhi ditched the delta in the Cauvery issue, his son and former Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin signed the agreement for the coal-bed methane extraction project. For those very reasons, Tiruvarur electorate must reject Mr. Karunanidhi in the elections,” he said.

Earlier, some DMK activists staged a black flag demonstration against the visit of Mr. Vaiko while some PWF cadres set fire to the photos of Mr Karunanidhi.
