Two persons were murdered in separate incidents in the district since Sunday night.

P. Velmurugan (32) of Kakkan Nagar under the Palayamkottai police station limits was murdered by his younger brother P. Mariselvam (27), a drunkard, on Sunday night following a property dispute. The Palayamkottai police arrested him on Monday.

In another incident, Jayamaniraj (56), a suspended cooperative housing society employee from Muthumaalaipuram near Alangulam, was found murdered in a field at Chinna Sankarankovil near Ambasamudram on Monday afternoon.

During investigation, police found that Jayamaniraj had allegedly cheated a good number of jobseekers in the guise of getting employment in various government departments after taking money to the tune of several lakhs of rupees from them.

Police suspect that the affected youths might have murdered Jayamaniraj.

Ambasamudram police have registered a case.
