City Police Commissioner M.N. Manjunatha has detained R. Anbuselvam (30) and M. Muthaiah (29), both hailing from Theni district, under Goondas Act for their repeated involvement in criminal cases.

Inspector V. Ganesan, the Station House Officer at Velampalayam police station under whose recommendations the detention was issued, said that around 25 cases of chain-snatching and vehicle thefts were there against Anbuselvam and 10 cases against Muthiah in Tirupur and Coimbatore districts.

The cases against them exist at various police stations in Tirupur city and Udumalpet (both Tirupur district), and at Singanallur, Annur and Peelamedu stations in Coimbatore district, he added. The detention under the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Sand Offenders, Slum Grabbers, and Video Pirates Act, which is popularly called as Goondas Act, would ensure that the two accused would be in prison for one year without them able to get bail, police sources said.
