Two private housekeeping personnel at work in the Sulur Air Force, Coimbatore, were arrested by the district police on Saturday for allegedly stealing expensive electronic gadgets from the quarters of a missing pilot, who was on an IAF transport plane that went missing with 29 people on board on July 22.
According to the Coimbatore District Police, the incident took place in the morning.
The accused were identified as S. Vijay (25) from Makinampatty in Pollachi, who has been working for five years, and L. Sarath Babu (26) of Bengaluru, who has been working for the two-and-half-years.
A senior police officer told The Hindu that Air Force security officers noticed the duo in the quarters of the missing pilot (Door No. 12/1, Officers Quarters) around 8 a.m.
Red-handed
They were caught red-handed and a Pentax camera worth Rs.50,000, lens costing Rs.10,000, a Kodak camera worth Rs. 5,000, a player of Rs. 40,000 and a smart phone worth Rs. 14,000 were recovered.
The duo were booked under sections 454 (lurking house-trespass or house-breaking to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment) and 380 (theft in a dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested.
