The development work was being carried out with a total outlay of Rs.20 crore in the phase one area of the complex, P.S.S.K. Raja Sankaralingam, president of Tuticorin Sipcot Industries Association, told The Hindu here on Tuesday. While State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu had contributed Rs. 10 crore, the member industries donated an equal sum towards the infrastructure development, he said. According top priority for road infrastructure, a 10-km stretch would be relaid in the complex, which is in existence since 1985. Storm water drains were also being upgraded to a stretch of 19 km to prevent water logging on rainy days. More importantly, water lines, laid in 1988, would be replaced with bigger pipes to ensure free flow. High mast lamps would be installed at key locations, along with around 300 street lights. The development work is expected to be completed by the end of November.

Currently, two Sipcot complexes in Tuticorin and Ranipet are being upgraded with required infrastructure development this year. Mr. Sankaralingam said that the upgrading would be to the industrial sector and would have an impact on the industrial scenario of south Tamil Nadu.
