Even as maintenance work is going on in the third unit of Tuticorin Thermal Power Station (TTPS), the first and the second units, which had been stopped following a drop in demand for electricity, have resumed power generation.

The TTPS is generating 1,050 MW through five units of 210 MW capacity each. When power generation by the wind turbine generators increased with the onset of the windy season, the total quantum of power generated by the power stations across Tamil Nadu exceeded the demand and hence three units of the TTPS were stopped. Utilising this opportunity, maintenance works were completed during this period.

As the maintenance works were completed, the first and the second units, which remained silent since June 19 and June 30 respectively, resumed power generation on Thursday evening, TTPS sources said.

“The third unit will also start generating power soon as maintenance work is progressing ahead of schedule,” the sources said.
