It was laden with plastic egg shells to hoodwink prohibition officials

Busting yet another ingenious way of smuggling Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from Puducherry to Tamil Nadu, personnel attached to the Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) unearthed the contraband concealed in a separate compartment in a pick up truck laden with plastic egg shells. The police arrested a 32-year-old man from Puducherry in this connection. Police sources said following information, a police team led by Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (PEW) K. Thirumalaisamy were conducting vehicle checks at Chavady check post in Cuddalore when they intercepted a Bolero pick up truck laden with egg trays.

They found plastic eggs neatly stacked in trays in the rear while as many as 160 carton boxes containing 3,500 bottles of IMFL were concealed in the front separated by plywood. The smugglers had poured egg yolk over all the trays to make the plastic eggs appear real, Mr. Thirumalaisamy said. Nearly 1,200 bottles each containing 750 ml and 2,750 bottles each containing 180 ml and bearing names of local brands of IMFL sold in Puducherry were seized.

The truck was seized and owner Lakshminarayanan alias Kuber (32) of Reddiyarpalayam was arrested. Sources said the accused was directed by the smugglers to hand over the contraband to another person at Ulundurpet and he was not aware of the original destination.
