A large number of people from Salem and its neighbouring districts of Namakkal and Dharmapuri thronged the park at the Mettur Dam site during the weekend.

With schools re-opening on June 1 after summer holidays, people visited the picturesque and sprawling park that has a lawn and many play materials just in front of the dam throughout the day on both the days. They witnessed the grandeur of River Cauvery from the park.

A majority of them preferred to carry with them home made lunch and other eatables and enjoyed them sitting below the shade giving trees on the bank of River Cauvery. The entire park wore a crowded look and young boys and girls formed long queues to try their hand in swings, merry go round, see saw, and play sliding.

The Arulmigu Muniappanswami Temple in Anaikattu in Mettur town, an ancient and very popular village temple, too attracted a large number of devotees from different parts of the district. They cooked Pongal and offered the same to God.

The hill station of Yercaud has been attracting a good number of tourists for the past couple of weeks. Besides enjoying a boat ride, the tourists also visited the Rose garden, Anna Park, Gents Seat, and Ladies Seat.
