Three members of a family committed suicide by consuming poison in a lodge room in Kodaikanal on Monday night. The condition of the fourth member is very critical.

The deceased were S. Kausalya (34), her daughters S. Janani (14) and S. Iniya (11) of Vadavathur in Namakkal district. Kausalya’s husband Subramani (38) was admitted to Kodaikanal Government Hospital, where his condition was said to be critical. The bodies of the deceased were sent to the hospital for post-mortem.

Police said Subramani, who had a land dispute with his younger brother, came to Kodaikanal along with his family members two days ago. After visiting all tourist spots, they came to a lodge for stay. They reportedly consumed poison on Monday night.

Alerted by a room boy on Tuesday morning, the lodge workers rushed to the room and found that Subramani alone was alive. They rushed him to the hospital, the police added.

A case has been registered in this connection.

Those with a suicidal tendency could contact State’s health helpline 104 or Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044-24640050 for counselling.
