The duty of Bar and Judiciary is to redeem hopes of litigants at large. The Judiciary will rise to the occasion and provide solutions, according to Madras High Court Judge M. Duraisamy.
Laying the foundation stone for combined court buildings and judicial officer’s quarters on new court campus here on Saturday, he said legal profession was a noble profession for serving the poor and downtrodden.
“The duty of the Judiciary is to administer law and justice fairly in the interest of common good and with the respect for the dignity of an individual,” he added.
Manifold increase in litigation was due to increase in population and awareness among public of their rights and their confidence in Judiciary. But there was lack of awareness of legal terms and provisions, he said.
The feeling that court cases were taking too long was not true. Increase in the number of courts and judges and lok adalats helped in speedy disposal of cases, the Judge said. We must view the huge inflow of litigation as an expression of utmost faith expressed by people. Mission of the Judiciary was to carry out its task fairly, justly and expeditiously, the judge noted.
A spacious court hall with comfortable environment will help people work effectively while bringing down the backlog of cases. With passage of time, there was a growing need to augment facilities in court. Infrastructure in the new court building would help in providing improved services to litigants, he said.
Earlier Mr. Duraisamy planted saplings on the new court campus.
