The slain BSF jawan, M. Ravichandran of 104 Battalion, was laid to rest here in Thimmaenatham village on Friday with a 21-gun salute. The jawan was killed in a Maoist ambush in Malkangiri along Odisha border on Wednesday.

The cortege of Ravichandran arrived here past 1.30 a.m. after it was flown in from Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru airport late Thursday evening. A 19-member BSF company from STC BSF Yelahanka (Bengaluru), led by Assistant Commandant Vishwajit Kumar, accompanied the cortege from the airport to his village here.

Wreaths were placed and the mortal remains of the jawan were draped in the Tricolour. Minister for Higher Education Palaniappan handed over a solatium of Rs.10 lakh announced by the State government to Yashodha, wife of Ravichandran.

Collector T.P. Rajesh and Superintendent of Police Kannammal paid their respects to Ravichandran.

The family has sought a job for Yashodha on compassionate grounds.
