Seminars, quiz mark World Veterinary Day celebrations

Seminars, oratory, quiz and rangoli competitions were held as part of the World Veterinary Day celebrations on the Veterinary College and Research Institute premises here recently. The celebrations were conducted on the theme ‘Continuing Education with a One Health Focus’

N. Punniyamurthy, professor and head, Veterinary University Training and Research Centre, Thanjavur, delivered a lecture on ‘phytoproducts as an alternative to antibiotics for livestock health and wealth’. He said that the knowledge on ethno veterinary practices gained from traditional healers was given back to the entire community through the university.

R. Kulandaivel, managing director, Thangam Hospital, spoke on medical and veterinary professional link. He said veterinarians were playing major role in preventing zoonotic diseases. L. Gunaseelan, dean, emphasised the importance of integration of human, animal and environment health for One Health Focus. P. Sadasivam, former dean, distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions.
