Runway re-carpeting on cards

One more flight service is expected to be operated from Thoothukudi Airport to Chennai in the coming months. Air Pegasus is expected to begin its services to cater to the growing demands of passengers , E.C. Taji, Airport Director, said at the programme organised to launch Wi-Fi facility on Tuesday. The airport authorities have held talks with the airliner, which is looking to operate smaller aircraft. Currently, a 72-seater aircraft is operated between Thoothukudi and Chennai twice a day at 9.10 a.m. and 3.10 p.m. The Airport Director said tenders had been floated for re-carpeting work to be taken up on the existing 1,350-metre runway at the airport at a cost of Rs. 5.5 crore. Moreover, she said, works had been awarded for air-conditioning the departure and arrival halls.
