Protest against Elangovan’s remarks

April 27, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - TIRUVARUR:

AIADMK cadre burnt effigies of TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan and denounced his snide remarks on Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in various parts of the district on Monday night.

Soon after the public meeting addressed by the former Chief Minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi in whose presence Mr. Elangovan derided Ms. Jayalalithaa, AIADMK cadre got to know of the Congressman's speech and gathered in important centres across the district as the night progressed.

Around midnight a huge crowd of party workers gathered at the bus stand and burnt the effigy of Mr. Elangovan while the police tried in vain to douse the flames. There was some trouble as the cadre engaged in a push-pull with the police.
