One critically injured in fire accident

A 43-year-old man, S. Muthu Mariappan, was critically injured in an accidental fire that was caused when crackers were being made illegally at his house Vijayakarisalkulam around 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police said that the friction caused while mixing chemicals might have triggered an explosion.

While a few others who were in the house were said to have escaped from the scene,

Muthu Mariappan was trapped inside the house.

The tiles of the houses were thrown apart, the police said.

Local people put out the fire.

The injured has been admitted to Sivakasi Government Hospital.

Fire at match unit

Meanwhile, a stock of undipped match sticks was destroyed in fire that erupted at a safety match manufacturing unit at Padanthal near here on Tuesday morning. No one was injured in the accident, the police also added.

Fire service personnel from Sivakasi fought for nearly an hour to put out the flames,

Sivakasi Station Fire Officer K.J. Murugan said. Electrical short-circuit was suspected to have caused the fire.

One killed

In another fire accident reported at a timber depot under Mallankinaru police station limits on Monday, one R. Dharmalingam (50) was killed.
