On the last day, 560 file nominations in TN

The former Union Ministers, Dayanidhi Maran and S. Jagathrakshakan, and Karti Chidambaram, son of the Union Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, were among 560 candidates who filed their papers on Saturday, the last date for filing of nominations for the April 24 Lok Sabha elections.

As many as 1,318 candidates — 1.198 male, 118 female and 2 ‘others’ (Barathi Kannama filed two nominations) — have so far filed nominations for all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Maran, who filed nomination for the Chennai Central constituency, said in his affidavit that he and his family — wife, daughter and son — have movable assets worth over Rs. 10 crore. But he has no immovable assets.

Congress candidate Karti Chidambaram, contesting from Sivaganga, is richer than Mr. Maran as per his affidavit. He and his family — his wife and daughter — have net assets valued at Rs. 74.87 crore.

Mr. Jagathrakshakan, who was elected from Arakkonam and now has shifted to Sriperumbudur, has movable assets valued at Rs. 2.13 crore. But the value of the assets owned by his wife is higher. She has movable assets worth over Rs. 13.34 crore and immovable assets worth over Rs. 55.58 crore. The value of immovable assets owned by Mr. Jagathrakshakan is Rs. 6.98 crore.

The DMK candidate from Sivaganga, Durairaj, has assets worth Rs. 14.49 crore. The DMK candidate for Dindigul, Gandhirajan, and his wife have assets worth Rs. six crore.

Meera Udaya Kumar, wife of Aam Aadmi Party candidate for Kanyakumari S.P. Udaya Kumar, said in her affidavit that she had moveable and immovable property worth Rs. 3.03 crore.
