Nurses Day observed

International Nurses Day was celebrated here on Wednesday under the auspices of the Pudukottai Gandhi World Foundation. Its president K. Mohanraj, S. Swaminathan, co-ordinator, and V. C. Subash Gandhi, secretary, spoke about the significance of the day which falls on May 12 every year, marking the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale.

The theme of the year is “A force for change: Improving health system’s resilience”.

D. Parimala Devi, Dean cum Special Officer of the Government Medical College and Hospital, Pudukottai, honoured T. Malliga, Nursing Superintendent Grade I, with ‘Mahatma Gandhi award’.

A citation referred to her services in the cause of patients for the past 36 years.

S. Ramadoss and C. Senthil Kumar, both doctors, spoke.
