The second unit of NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL) in Tuticorin commenced its commercial production, sources said here on Saturday.
The unit of coal-fired thermal power plant was designed to produce 500 megawatt. This unit had successfully completed 72 hours of continuous operation at 4 a.m. on August 28 and qualified for commercial operations.
NTPL, a joint venture company (NLC with 89 per cent and Tangedco the remaining) established a 1000-MW (2x500 MW). The first unit commenced production from June this year. Of the 1000 MW, 43 per cent of energy produced would be supplied to Tamil Nadu, sources said.
