The Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of statutory notice to State Transport Commissioner Satyabrata Sahoo and directed him to appear before it on October 8, on two contempt petitions which alleged delay in implementing a mechanism to revise auto fares across the State, as directed by the court earlier.
When the petition came up for hearing before the First Bench comprising Chief Justice S.K. Kaul and Justice M. Sathyanarayanan, the State government said it needed one year time to revise the fares. The Bench further said the contemnors should file an affidavit within two weeks, as to why they should not be proceeded against, and be punished in accordance with law.
Coimbatore Consumer Voice had filed contempt plea, since the High Court order in October last year on its PIL plea, issuing several directions, including revision of auto fares in accordance with the fuel prices, was not implemented.
