Actor Vishal Krishna has been in the news lately more for his central role in Nadigar Sangam elections than movies.

When it was pointed out by journalists that he is doing what actor and politician Vijayakanth did – indulging in social service and getting involved in politics within the film industry – the actor smilingly denied that he is trying to get into politics.

“I am not doing social service and contesting for Nadigar Sangam elections for getting into politics,” he said, adding, “I know that’s how it is looks, but the fact is that I have been helping kids in their education for many years. But, it is all becoming visible only now. I am not paying for educating children for their vote. They can’t vote anyway.”

The actor maintained that all he is looking for now is to act in good movies to maintain his place in Tamil cinema. “The Tamil people have accepted me as an actor and I want to give it back. I want to act in as many good films as possible,” said Vishal, whose Paayum Puli , directed by Suseenthiran is set to release on September 4.

Vishal, who wanted to become a filmmaker, said that he could direct a film sometime later next year. “It is tricky because I don’t want to lose out on good movies and roles,” he said.

Talking about his much-delayed reunion with director Bala and Lingusamy, actor Vishal said, “Lingusamy’s Sanda Kozhi sequel will not happen unless it is better than the first film. As far as Bala’s film was concerned, I would drop every film I am doing to act in his film. He is a genius.”

What’s in a name? A lot, if upcoming films are anything to go by.

Tamil filmmakers now seem keen on giving their films fancy names. Here are a few examples: ‘ Papparapaam’,‘Vandha Mala’ , ‘Motta Siva Ketta Siva’ , ‘Kottankuchi ’ and the recently released ‘ Kurangu Kaila Poo Malai’ . Sources in the film industry say such wacky titles are chosen for their ability to draw attention.

“Most filmmakers have three considerations, while choosing a name for their project. One, it should lend itself to visual presentation, including catchy poster designs. Two, it has to subtly convey the essence of the story. Three, there has to be a rhythm to the name,” says A. John, who takes up post-production work for films.

Debutant director S. Sasikumaran says ‘Papparapaam’ is about someone who comes back to life. He chose the title as the trumpet sound is a colloquial word and brings a comic element to it. “We found it apt for a humorous, fun-filled film,” he adds.

Vandha Mala’ is about four small-time criminals.
