MLA alleges neglect of Uzhavar Sandhai

August 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:11 am IST - TIRUVANNAMALAI:

The Uzhavar Sandhai in Tiruvannamalai is being misused, alleged MLA E.V. Velu.

He said the facilities were launched by the DMK government to enable farmers to sell vegetables directly to consumers.

However, in Tiruvannamalai, traders are occupying the sandhai in the guise of farmers.

He inspected the sandhai and told reporters that the government neglects Uzhavar Sandhai as it was a scheme started when the DMK was in power. Tiruvannamalai sandhai was the second such facility to be launched in Tamil Nadu, after the one in Madurai, and it also recorded the highest sales, he said.

“But now, the toilets in the sandhai are ill-maintained. There is no drainage facility and the floor becomes sludgy after rain,” Mr. Velu said.

Constituency funds

“ If the government fails to provide basic amenities in the sandhai, I will ensure they are provided using my constituency development fund,” he added.
