Ministers come home to a rousing reception

Newly sworn-in Ministers M. Kanikandan from Ramanathapuram and G. Baskaran from Sivaganga were given rousing reception when they returned to the two district headquarters on Saturday to meet the officials and review the performance of various departments.

Ramanathapuram Collector S. Natarajan received Dr. Manikandan, Minister for Information and Technology and Sivaganga Collector S. Malarvizhi received G. Baskaran, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries Board by presenting bouquets in the two district headquarters.

After garlanding the statue of ‘Rebel’ Muthuramalinga Sethupathy at the Collectorate entrance, Dr. Manikandan, accompanied by MP A. Anwar Raja and newly-elected MLAs from the district – S. Karunas (Tiruvadanai) and S. Muthiah (Paramakudi) – addressed a meeting chaired by Mr. Natarajan.

The Minister, on his maiden visit to the hometown, reviewed the performance of various departments and called upon the heads of departments to ensure that benefits of various government welfare schemes reached the poor. He also distributed welfare assistance to the beneficiaries.

After getting a detailed account of the implementation of various welfare projects and programmes in the district during the last five years, the Minister said officials should help the people receive the benefits without any difficulty.

District Revenue Officer (DRO) M. Ali Akbar, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency A. Palani and District Chairman M. Sundarapandian were present.

Mr Baskaran, who interacted with the Collector, Superintendent of Police Ziaul Haque, District Revenue Officer D. Ilango, Project Director, DRDA Jayakumar and Revenue Divisional Officer Aravindan, pledged to develop the district in all spheres.
