The release of water from Mettur Dam for farm activities in Delta districts was brought down to 2,000 cusecs on Saturday morning.

The release of water from dam for farm activities remained at bare minimum 500 cusecs till Wednesday.

In view of delayed farming in parts of Cauvery delta and the forthcoming ‘Mahamaham’ festival in Kumbakonam scheduled in the month of February, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa directed release of 6,000 cusecs of water from Mettur Dam from January 28 to February 25. The water level in the dam stood at 70.26 feet on Saturday evening against its full level of 120 feet.

The storage level of the dam was 32.925 tmc against its full capacity of 93.470 tmc.
